REQUIRED REACTIVE (kVAr) POWER CALCULATION

It is very simple to calculate the required power factor by using power factor correction chart, will illustrate it by an example.

Consider we have existing power system (Load), who is drawing power factor 0.75 and we want to improve our power factor to 0.90.

As we know 0.75 power factor is very low, we are liable to pay penalty to Electricity Board.

First go to the initial cosΦ column, search for the 0.75 pf in that column, draw a horizontal line then go to final cosΦ row and search for 0.90 pf in final cosΦ row draw a vertical, when thesw two lines interest each other that will be the desired power factor for you power system (Load).
